Framer Motion is now Motion for React
On November 12th, Matt Perry, the creator of Framer Motion, announced that the library is now independent from Framer and has been rebranded as Motion for React.
The exciting part? Motion is expanding beyond React! It already supports vanilla JavaScript, with Vue support coming soon.
Focus of this course
This course will continue to focus on the React version of Motion: Motion for React.
Motion for React is a drop-in replacement for Framer Motion. The API is the same, so everything explained in this course is still applicable.
Yet in order to avoid any confusion, there are a few changes I’m going to make over the coming weeks.
1. Updated lessons
You may already notice the new name in some places. I’ve updated most references outside the lessons and exercises. Over the next few days, I’ll review all lessons to update references there as well.
Additionally, I’ll record a new intro video explaining these changes and clarifying that for now, ‘Framer Motion’ will still be mentioned in the videos themselves.
2. Updated exercises
Next, I’ll update all exercises to reflect the new imports, switching from framer-motion
to motion/react
.
I will also add a warning for saved states that still use the old import, prompting you to update them.
